Kitty Conway’s Vintage is a small business with a passion for the past.
Named after an Edwardian mill girl from the North West of England (pictured right), we have a small stall in Grove Mill, Eccleston, now Bygone Times.
Stock is always described as accurately as possible, and if there is some doubt, then circa or ‘c’ is used to mean that the item may cover a period between decades – for example dresses worn in the late 1950s may also have been worn in the early 1960s – that sort of thing. Unlike today, the items in a person’s wardrobe would be kept for as long as possible, repaired and sometimes altered to reflect changing fashions. Most items are over 20 years old but we also stock some new items like seamed stockings to help you complete your look – new items are of course described as such. As most items are over 20 years old, and many are much older, please be aware that they have had a previous life and may show signs of this. Any really noticeable faults will be described and pictured on the product page. Please see the Terms & Conditions page, section 6d, for more information.
The mannequin modelling the website items is from the 1950s/60s with striking glass eyes. 
She appears to have had a makeover in the 1970s with her face paint changed and skin colour darkened to reflect the fashion for suntans. Named ‘Kitty’, of course, she has been lovingly restored – although she seems to have acquired someone else’s arm at some time in her past!
Items from the private collection will be featured on the blog from time to time, allowing the story of the garment’s life to be told in more detail, and hopefully help those interested in studying vintage clothing.
